EUSA and Rugby Europe strengthen partnership

The European University Sports Association (EUSA) and Rugby Europe, the governing body of rugby in Europe, have signed a new partnership to increase the development of rugby among university students throughout the continent.

Following an initial agreement, signed in 2017, the two entities have decided to further strengthen their partnership and general cooperation.

Both entities will continue to work together in activities and projects promoting university sport - specifically 7s Rugby - while promoting and contributing to the development of the game among students across Europe.

The agreement includes ensuring quality refereeing and equipment at EUSA competitions while also exchanging relevant information at EUSA events, encouraging EUSA’s members and participants to establish cooperation and networks at national level. The partnership will be already implemented at the next European University Games (EUG) planned for Belgrade (Serbia) in 2021.

“We are thrilled to strengthen our partnership with EUSA with this new agreement. To promote and play rugby at University is a key element for players development and retention in our sport throughout Europe. This agreement will also offer new opportunities to our referees, adding to our current officials’ pathway, to gain experience at more international events,” said Mr Octavian Morariu, President of Rugby Europe.

"For three years, EUSA and Rugby Europe have worked together in promoting and developing rugby across the continent, together making a significant contribution to the promotion of an active and healthy way of life. By signing this new agreement, we believe we have further strengthened our cooperation which will result in an even greater impact on student-athletes across Europe who will no doubt benefit from the fruits of this renewed partnership,” said EUSA President Mr Adam Roczek.
