Officiating Strategy
Rugby Europe has developed a strategic plan for the development of Referee’s in Europe based on two main pillars :
- To assist unions in building and structuring their Referees Department and in training local referees through coaching, mentoring and officiating international games
- Identify officiating talent and creating bridges with other institutions to join the international referee’s panel.
Rugby Europe aims to increase the recruitment and training of new referees throughout Europe and expand the role of Referees Managers, Coaches and Supervisors.
Rugby Europe organise regional and sub-regionals training sessions based on performance levels. The content of this programme is established on World Rugby policy and key-elements.
New talents will be scouted by Rugby Europe supervisors during XV and 7s Rugby Europe competitions. These supervisors have been selected and trained for an extensive period at international level. This process enables Rugby Europe to select the best referees for high-profile fixtures.
