Preview : Third weekend of Rugby Europe Super Cup

Lusitanos and Black Lion will meet in the Estadio Nacional Jamor in Lisbon on Saturday both looking to build on Rugby Europe Super Cup 2024 opening wins.

A fortnight ago Lusitanos from Portugal defeated Castilla Y Leon Iberians 36-18 at the same venue while last weekend Georgian outfit Black Lion went to Spain and defeated the same opponents 54-3.

All of that means that both of these sides have five points in Pool A and meets at 6pm local time (5pm UTC) on Saturday.

Black Lion will start as favourites, but Lusitanos will want to show they are a match for anyone on their home turf.

In the corresponding fixture last season, Black Lion won 22-0.

Meanwhile, in Pool B of the same competition there are two matches this weekend.

The first of those is in Bucharest at 12.30pm local time (9.30am UTC) on Saturday when the Romanian Wolves host Delta from Netherlands.

Like Lusitanos and Black Lion in the other section, both of these sides won their opening fixtures for 2024 with bonus points, the Wolves travelling to Czechia a week ago and getting the better of the Bohemia Rugby Warriors 38-18.

Delta were at home and hit their stride to see off Brussels Devils 43-19.

Last year these sides met in Amsterdam and the Wolves won 31-5 so Delta will be out for a bit of revenge and with both of these sides liking to throw the ball around it should be an entertaining contest.

The second Pool B match on Saturday will be at the RC Soignies Stadium in Soignies at 5pm local time (3pm UTC) when the Devils welcome the Warriors to Belgium.

With both sides coming off the back of losses they will be up for this one while Brussels Devils won the two meetings between the sides comfortably last term 43-10 and 44-10 respectively.

There is also some international action to look forward to this weekend.

At the Széktói Stadium Athletic Centre in Kecskemét on Saturday, Hungary and Austria meet in the first match of the men’s Rugby Europe Conference event for 2024/25.

It kicks-off at 3pm local time (1pm UTC) and it will be 70 versus 79 in the world rankings.

Then on Sunday at 11am local time (8am UTC) there is a match in the women’s Rugby Europe Conference for 2024/25 when Romania and Bulgaria meet.

This will be 44 versus 49 in the world rankings and will round off a busy weekend of action.
