Rugby 7s will feature as part of the competition with a men’s and women’s competition in Malta in the Games of the Small States of Europe and will be held in the Tony Bezzina Stadium.
In the men’s competition there will be Cyprus, San Marino, Andorra Malta, Monaco and Luxembourg, who will all play each other in a round robin format to decide the medals.
Andorra, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro will battle it out in the women’s edition of the competition. Their edition will be a slightly different format with the teams playing each other once before the medal matches on Friday.
Speaking ahead of the games Malta President, Robert Portelli, said, “Some years ago, we were all excited that Rugby 7s has been included for the first time ever in the Games for the Small States of Europe. Now, witnessing this occasion on home soil makes it even more special.
“Beyond the competitive aspect of this tournament, we are glad that this event provides an excellent opportunity to improve cooperation between the participating unions. Small countries live a different reality than the bigger countries, so working together will help us to develop rugby further in way that otherwise would be more difficult. I would like to thank Rugby Europe for their full support in all areas of this event and wish all the best for all the teams.”
Good luck to all the teams taking part.
