Preview: Third week of RESC action incoming!

Round three of action takes place in the men’s Rugby Europe Super Cup this weekend and Bohemia Warriors will be looking to build on their famous first ever win in the competition from last weekend.

The Warriors from Czechia moved up to third place in the standings after they went to the Arcul de Triumf stadium in Bucharest in round two and defeated the Romanian Wolves 39-24.

This time around the Warriors are at home to Brussels Devils, the Belgian side who have lost two from two to date and are sixth in the six-team table, on Saturday evening.

The game is at 8pm local time (6pm UTC) in the Prague Marketa Stadium and the home side will be likely to receive an amazing welcome after last weekend’s heroics in Romania.

After the win in Romania, Dan Hosek, the Warriors captain, said:  “Bravery and passion and just not giving up were keys to this win and we want to build on this now.

“In the second half we had some tough moments, but we got through them to get the win and that shows the character within this group.

“We have set the standard now and we are exciting about the next challenge that is to come.”

That game is the third of three being played in the Super Cup over the weekend with the first one between leaders Castilla Y Leon Iberians from Spain and the Romanian Wolves taking place at 7pm local time (5pm UTC) on Friday evening in the Estadio Nueva Balastera.

The Iberians will go into this one as firm favourites given they have won two from two while their opponents have lost two from two, but the result by the Warriors last week has shown than, on the day, any team can beat any team in this competition.

The second of the three round three games is second placed Lusitanos from Portugal versus fourth placed Delta from the Netherlands.

In round two Lusitanos won away 41-17 at Brussels Devils to remain unbeaten while Delta, who now have one win and one defeat under their belts, lost 50-17 at home to Iberians.

This match takes place at 1pm local time (noon UTC) in the CAR Jamor stadium.

  • As well as the Super Cup action, there are five internationals this weekend in Rugby Europe events. They are all on Saturday.

In the women’s Trophy, Finland host Sweden at noon local time (9am UTC) in the Ruutisavu Areena.

The men’s Trophy has two games taking place with Lithuania and Poland meeting in the Siauliai Rugby Academy Stadium at 2pm local time (11am UTC) and then Cratia heading to the Trelleborg Rugby Arena to face hosts Sweden at 2pm local time (noon UTC).

Finally, in the men’s Conference, the City Stadium is the venue at 1pm local time (11am UTC) as Serbia take on Slovakia while at 3pm local time (noon UTC) Finland and Latvia meet.
