In the Rugby Europe Super Cup there is a lot to play for this weekend.
DELTA v BOHEMIA RUGBY WARRIORS
The action gets going tonight at 7.30pm local time (5.30pm UTC) when Pool B leaders Delta, the Netherlands side who are already assured a place in the first versus second final in that section next month, host Bohemia Rugby Warriors from Czechia.
The Warriors travel without a win and without a league point yet, but they will have nothing to lose in the National Rugby Center in Amsterdam and that kind of team can often prove dangerous.
They will want to put in a good performance to take forward into the third versus fourth Pool B final in a few weeks’ time, but they will also e aware that, with a possible nine points out of 10, Delta are a team on form.
These sides last met last December when, in the old format of the competition, Delta won 55-3 at the same venue to finish seventh overall.
ROMANIAN WOLVES v BRUSSELS DEVILS
The big question in Pool B really is who will join Delta in the first versus second final and who will be taking on the Warriors in the third versus fourth final?
Currently the Romania Wolves are second in the standings with six points while the Brussels Devils are third on five points. While there are a number of permutations, it could boil down to whoever wins the clash between the two at the Arcul de Triumf venue in Bucharest at 3pm local time (noon UTC) on Saturday could well be joining Delta in the higher ranked October match.
When these sides last met, the Wolves won away in Belgium 60-5 last November.
BLACK LION v CASTILLA Y LEON IBERIANS
In Pool A, we are into the second round of matches and at 6.30pm local time (2.30pm UTC) the Black Lion from Georgia will be hosting Castilla Y Leon Iberians from Spain.
Given they have lost two from two to date, including a 54-3 home defeat to the weekend’s opposition just a fortnight ago, the Iberians head to the Avchala Rugby Stadium in Tbilisi as big underdogs with leaders Black Lion out to make it three wins from three. Compared to the last game, the Castilla y León Iberians have 9 changes in the starting lineup. The Spanish head coach Juan Carlos Perez has opted to change the team, mixing youth and experience.
MEN’S CONFERENCE
On the international scene, there are two matches in the men’s 2024/25 Rugby Europe Conference: Moldova will host Türkiye for their start of the season. Last season, after three wins in pool, Moldovan team lost the play-off game to access to Trophy level while Türkiye completed two defeats for one victory.
In Pool E, Kosovo will take on Montenegro in Istog on Sunday (1.00pm local time – 11.00am UTC). The two promoted teams from Development level will face for the third time in one year. Each one won on their home soil.
