Following the feedback from all the key stakeholders, the decision has been made by the Rugby Europe Board to confirm the inclusion of Belgium in the competition for the next edition.
Following the conclusion of a successful 24-25 season in the Women’s Trophy Division, where Belgium secured two victories against Finland and Germany, backed by a a long-term vision for Women’s Rugby growth and growing participation numbers, Rugby Europe has confirmed their participation in the top division for next year.
Rugby Europe has also received and accepted the decision by the Swedish rugby union, who have requested to return to the Trophy division for next season, due to internal circumstances.
As a result of these changes, the Women’s 2026 Championship will be played with the following teams:
- Spain
- Netherlands
- Portugal
- Belgium
The Competition’s schedule and details will be confirmed in due course.
The news comes in a monumental year for women's rugby as England prepares to host a record-breaking Rugby World Cup in August 2025.
