After a great tournament played from March26th to April 1st in Bucharest, Portugal has been crowned Rugby Europe U20 Championship Winner 2017.


Seeding 5th at the beginning of the competition, The Lobos performed at each stage of the tournament defeating Netherlands 42-5, then the host Romania 21-16 to access to the final to challenge Spain, Top-seed.


In a very tight game, Lobos scored first thanks to a try by José Cabral converted by Jorge Abecassis. Score did not change until 60th minute when Spain finally found the space to get through Portuguese defense (try : Ignacia Herrero)


Everybody thought at the moment the decision would be made through a shootout session, but concluded a new attack to give the advantage to Portugal 3 minutes before the end by José Sarmento. (12-7).


During the last minutes, Spain tried to reverse the situation to steal the Trophy dedicated to Portugal. Despite a last attempt, Leones failed near the line. The referee finally set Portuguese players free to celebrate this European Title and also the ticket obtained for World Rugby Trophy to be played in August 2017 in Uruguay.
