A second title in a row for "Lobinhos"

The Rugby Europe U20 Championship 2018 took place in Coimbra / Taveiro venues, hosted by the Portugal Rugby Union. It gathered 8 teams based on last edition ranking ( ) and promotions (Ukraine and Poland). A regional selection replaced nations that could not participate to the competition.

First round was marked by the performance of Netherlands, who defeated Romania (40-38) in a very tight and offensive game (12 tries scored) - - no surprise in the other games.

The "Oranje" faced Portugal in semi-finals. They kept the pace during the first-half (7-7) but after a sin-bin for n°2, they conceded a first try and could not fill the gap and were finally defeated 22-7.

In the second semi-final, Spain played against Russia. The first period was enough to ensure the ticket for the final: Leones scored 3 tries (25-0) in the first 40 minutes. They defended their advantage in the second part of the game for a final 30-0 result.

As last year, Portugal and Spain were opposed for the final. The synopsis was more or less the same with few points scored in the first period (8-3). However, Portugal preserved this advance, resisting to Spanish attacks and scored a new try (56° - Cardoso) that sealed a sufficient advantage for Lobinhos. Despited some subsitutions, Leones did find the solution to score and fill the gap. Portugal scored a last try (81-Azevedo) for an indisputable victory 25-3.

Thanks to this success, Portugal U20 Team will participate to 2018 World Rugby U20 Trophy
