Lithuania joins the Top of European Sevens Rugby

The second and last stage of the seven-level Trophy European Circuit was held this weekend The 12 teams competing in the competition were in Zenica (Bosnia and Herzegovina) after a first stage that took place last weekend in Zagreb.

At the end of this tournament, a team would be promoted to the Top of European Sevens Rugby next season.

In Croatia, Belgium dominated the tournament, beating Ukraine in the final and could consider a return to the elite left 2 years ago.

Unfortunately, the Belgians are the big losers of this tournament, since losing in the semi-final against Lithuania, they finish the Serie in the 3rd place, because of a general goal-average unfavorable (+174) compared to the other contenders.

Because everything was finally played at a few points scored or conceded on the whole series. What made the business of Lithuania after a bronze medal in Zagreb, fought to reach the final by taking care of its goal-average (+219 on the series) - as well as Ukraine did (+202).

In the end, Lithuanians and Ukrainians faced in the final for a decisive game. Ukraine could climb the top step of the podium in case of victory.

Led 12-7 at the half-time of a closed match, Ukraine never found the means to fill the gap, finishing 5 points behind their opponent (final score: 24-19).

Ukraine can consolate of not joining the 2020 Grand Prix thanks to its qualification for the Colomiers Olympic qualifying tournament.

As for the Lithuanians, they win sesames for both competitions.

At the bottom of the table, Bosnia-Herzegovina will not keep its place in Trophy and returns to Conference, accompanied by Bulgaria.
