The first Leg of Rugby Europe Men's Sevens Grand Prix 2019 took place this week-end in Moscow

The twelve best European nations competed this weekend in Moscow for the first leg of the European Grand Prix Series 2019.

This tournament served as a pre-qualifying tournament for the Olympic Qualifier Tournament which will take place on July 13rd and 14th in Colomiers.

Team France had a strong squad for the tournament, conducted by its leaders, Bouhraoua, Barraque, Laugel, Lakafia or O'connor ...

At the end of the group stage, the "Bleus" made a perfect start with 3 wins (Italy (33-7), Romania (26-12), Ireland (38-14)) and reached the quarter-final against Squadra Azzura, one of the best third ranked teams. The Italians could not overcome the French Team and conceeded a scathing 53-0 this Sunday morning.

Then France competed against England led by Dan Norton and Burgess in the semifinals. In a lively game, the French team took the lead from the start and wouldn't give up to secure their ticket to the final (24-19).

In this final games, Jerome Daret's men was facing Ireland, the European Champion 2018, who beated Germany in the semi-finals.

Once again, the French cared for the outset and scored 3 times (Siega, Barraque (2)), but got settled and lost the lead at the beginning of the second half (19-21). Thanks to Dalligna they got to lead again by 5 points just 2 minutes from the siren. A new try by Mignot achieved sufficient advantage to win this first European title of the season, despite a final Irish try on the gong (31-26).

The win gave the "Bleus" the first seed in the Colomiers Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which will gather 12 nations (9 from the Moscow tournament, 2 from the Trophy level (2nd Division), and the winner of the Conference (3rd Division)).
