On Thursday 27th of September, Rugby Europe’s Participation, Retention and GIR manager Jose Gorrotxategui met with the EOC EU Office staff in their office in Brussels. The European Olympic Committee European Union Office has as their full dedication the relations with European Union institution and the creation of Policy. They are a very helpful partner for many National Olympic Committees and European Olympic Sport Federations.

The main topic for the meeting was to progress the ongoing work on a Erasmus+ application that Rugby Europe is preparing to be submitted in early 2019. During the meeting Valentin Capelli and Felix  Schaefer exchange ideas and visions regarding the application and supported Jose Gorrotxategui who is responsible on behalf of Rugby Europe to coordinate this process.

José said: “Being a partner of the EOC EU Office is a consequence of Rugby becoming an Olympic sport. We receive from them great support in several areas, as well as the possibility to network with other Olympic European Federation and be updated on future European Union sport policies. At the moment, we are working very hard in building a solid Erasmus+ application focused on supporting the development of rugby in Europe. We want to seize the opportunity that Erasmus+ funding brings to European sport, and help our developing Unions by creating a network of knowledge and skills transfer that will result in better governance and better Unions.”

“We still have a lot of work to do, but we have a very good starting point. The great relationship Rugby Europe is building with the EOC EU Office and other EU institutions is allowing us to have a better understanding about key Sport issues and opportunities in our region which in the long term will also Rugby Europe to be a better leader for our member Unions.”
