RUSSIA WINS LODZ SEVENS GRAND PRIX SERIES 2017
Russia has won the second round of 2017 Grand Prix Series
The second round in Rugby Europe Sevens Grand Prix Series 2017 was hosted in Lodz, in collaboration with the Polish Rugby Union.
After a great tournament in Moscow last week-end, the twelve teams moved to Lodz with more or less the same teams according to their ambitions.
Ireland wanted to confirm its first good results in Rugby Europe Series but a try scored in the last minute by Russia deprived them of the final ticket.
As last week, Spain reached the final stage and imagined they will claim the title this time. Unfortunately, Russia contested this wish in a tight game, that went to extra-time (full-time score : 19-19). The "Bears" did not miss the opportunity to seal the title and scored the decisive try in the first attack of extra time.
Ireland finished on the podium, defeating Wales 33-5
Italy won the Challenge Trophy thanks to a last-minute victory on Belgium (21-17)
