IRELAND KEEPS ITS CROWN IN HEIDELBERG

Second title in a row for Ireland U18 men's Team

The 2017 European Men's Sevens Championship took place in Heidelberg this week-end, gathering the 16 best European teams splitted in 4 pools.

While England, France and Wales dominated their pools winning 3 out of 3 games, Pool A saw Ireland (title-holder) losing against Germany (14-17) but leading the pool thanks to goal-average.

In Quarter-finals, England battled until Extra-time to defeat a good Georgia team (17-12) and access to semi-finals. France, Wales and Ireland avoided falling into the trap and qualified for the last stages.

As in 2016, Ireland and France qualified for the final after convincing semifinals. In the last game of the competition, France scored first (5-0) but conceded a try just after. They took the advantage with a second try, leading 12-7 at the half. The second half was a great battle. Ireland scored twice while France did only once (21-19). Despite a last attack, France failed in filling the gap. Ireland was crowned 2017 European Champions for the second in a row.
